Programme Philosophy : The School of Nursing, Mae Fah Luang University, believes that good health is an integral element of good quality of life. Healthcare personnel, especially registered nurses and obstetricians, play an important part in accomplishing the mission of improving people’s quality of life. It is, therefore, necessary that nurses possess the ability, ethics and integrity and apply them to optimally improving people’s quality of life in their living and working environments. To achieve this goal, nurses are involved in promoting healthcare, preventing diseases and injuries and giving treatment in every important stage and condition of life, including birth, illnesses, disabilities, rehabilitation and the final stage of life. Nurses are also expected to give patients safe, holistic care that leads to self-reliance. To achieve such qualifications, nursing students need to develop a holistic understanding of people from culturally diverse backgrounds. Such an understanding enables them to empower individuals, groups of people, families and communities to fully develop their self-healthcare potential, based on the belief that people are capable of learning from their experience. The Nursing Science Programme, in its attempt to prepare high-quality graduates, adopts adult-centred approaches to train its students. The programme emphasises enhancement of autonomous learning skills, application of information technology to education, and development of practical skills in real situations. The goal of the programme is to enable the students to enhance their power of discernment, critical thinking skills, lifelong independent learning skills, potential to work efficiently in their capacity along with interdisciplinary personnel, and ability to adjust themselves to changes and to working properly and happily amongst culturally diverse people.
